01 — The idea

A game about attention rather than speed, made to be visited slowly and remembered afterwards.

A tree is not a button. It cannot be optimized in an afternoon. It asks you to look, wait, and notice what changed while you were elsewhere.

One Quiet Tree turns that relationship into a small browser game. There are no levels to grind, no daily streak to protect. There is a patch of ground, a weather system, and the quiet arithmetic of care.

02 — Two ways to stay

A story with an end. A meadow without one.

Begin with a season that remembers everything, or stay for a tree that simply keeps growing. Both modes share the same weather, the same ground, and the same hands.

The Long Season

Twenty-eight days from first thaw to first frost. Follow a handful of letters, make four decisions that ask something of you, and watch your care — or its absence — reach the final page. The season closes in one of two fates, with many shades between the two.

  • 28 days
  • 4 moments a day
  • Weather forecast
  • Branching epilogue
  • Saves in browser
II
Endless · no failure

Free Growth

A sandbox with weather and no verdict. Tend the tree as long as you like while seasons turn, rings accumulate, and the meadow fills with small life. Water a little, sit a while, then close the tab. It will wait for you.

  • Endless rings
  • Live seasons
  • Creatures & blossoms
  • No endings
  • No time limits

03 — The interactions

Ten ways to touch a tree.

Every action has a cost and an echo. The game never tells you exactly what is right; it lets the tree answer.

01

Water

Rain is not always enough. The soil remembers every dry week.

02

Shake

A little wind of your own. The leaves will tell you if it was welcome.

03

Prune

A cut can be a kindness, if you know which branch to leave alone.

04

Plant

Seeds become saplings, then shade. If the meadow can hold them.

05

Mow

A tidy path or a living meadow. Rarely both at once.

06

Mulch

Cut grass returned to the soil. A small hedge against frost.

07

Sing

The tree cannot hear you. It leans anyway.

08

Sit

Stay long enough to notice what yesterday’s weather left behind.

09

Harvest

Fruit for the village, seeds for next spring. Nothing is free.

10

Take an axe

The harshest choice is always available. The game will remember it.

Every action uses one moment of the day.The tree remembers what the menu cannot.

04 — The sky

Wind is a character.

The weather forecast is not a warning screen. It is a sentence in a conversation. Plan around it, prepare for it, or ignore it and meet the consequences with the tree.

Rain

Soft days. Full soil. The easiest weather to love.

Heat

Long, bright, thirsty. The week you wish you had mulched.

Storm

Water and damage in the same gust. Canopies catch wind.

Frost

Quiet. Structural. It asks what you did last week, not today.

05 — The last page

Two fates. No score.

The story ends with a portrait of the tree, the meadow, the village, and the kind of attention you paid. Care is not a single number, and neither is harm.

One possible fate

The living grove

Saplings take root. Birds return to the tall grass. The tree becomes a place rather than an object. But even a grove can be lonely, or generous, depending on how you arrived there.

The other

The clearing

A stump, a sold meadow, a village that finds somewhere else to gather. The weather continues. The final page does not look away, and it does not lecture you.

And every shade between. The summary shows what remained.

“Retention should come from curiosity, not from anxiety.”

One Quiet Tree is an independent browser game built around a simple idea: a small world becomes interesting when it is allowed to remember you. It is made to be played in a browser tab, not to take over your life.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the story mode?
The Long Season lasts 28 in-game days and usually takes 35–50 minutes, depending on how slowly you read. There are no real-time waits or timers. You can leave at any moment and continue later in the same browser.
What happens in Free Growth?
Free Growth is an endless sandbox. There is no story, no failure, and no final page. Weather keeps moving, the tree adds rings, and new birds, blossoms, and saplings appear as the meadow matures. Come back for five minutes or five hours.
Do I need an account or a download?
No. The game runs in a modern browser. Your progress is saved with local storage on your device; there is no account, email signup, or cloud save. Clearing your browser data will clear the tree.
Can I be unkind to the tree?
Yes. The game is not a punishment machine, but it does not pretend that neglect is harmless. You can overwater, over-prune, mow too close, shake until the tree shivers, or take an axe to it. The story responds to care, harm, and the long silences in between.
Does the game work on a phone?
Yes. The 3D scene is designed to be light and readable on a small screen. If WebGL is unavailable, the game falls back to a drawn scene and all story choices remain playable. Reduced-motion preferences are respected.
Are there ads?
Not in the game. The written pages may show a small number of clearly labelled ads, and only if you allow advertising cookies. The privacy note explains what happens and how to change your choice.
Who made this?
One Quiet Tree is an independent browser game, made slowly by one developer. You can read more about the project or write a note.
