Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small files a website can ask your browser to store. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps data on your device. The game uses local storage rather than cookies for your save, because a season should not be sent to a server you never asked for.
“Essential” means the site cannot provide the expected experience without it. “Advertising” means it is used by Google AdSense to measure or personalise ads and is only permitted after you choose to allow ads.
Essential storage
These items stay in your browser. They are not used for advertising and are not read by us remotely.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
oqt-story-v1 | localStorage | Story mode save: tree name, day, actions, choices. | Until cleared |
oqt-free-v1 | localStorage | Free Growth save: rings, tree state, weather, milestones. | Until cleared |
oqt-settings-v1 | localStorage | Sound and reduced-motion preferences. | Until cleared |
oqt-consent-v1 | localStorage | Your advertising choice and the date it was made. | 180 days |
__cf_bm | Cookie | Cloudflare bot management; protects the site from automated abuse. Set by the hosting provider when needed. | About 30 minutes |
cf_clearance | Cookie | Cloudflare security challenge clearance. Only set if a challenge is required. | Varies |
Cloudflare may add other security cookies depending on its configuration. These are controlled by the host, not by the game’s story engine.
Advertising cookies
If you choose Allow ads and advertising is configured for the site, Google AdSense may set cookies or use local storage to serve and measure ads. The game pages never include ad slots; only some written pages do.
| Examples | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
IDE, test_cookie | Measure ad effectiveness and serve personalised advertising where permitted. | |
__gads, __gpi | Store ad interaction and frequency information. | |
_gcl_au | Advertising and conversion measurement. |
The exact cookies and lifetimes are controlled by Google and can change. You can review and control personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. Independent industry opt-outs are available at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
The site does not use Google Analytics, heatmaps, session recorders, or other analytics cookies.
Managing your choice
Use the button below to reopen the choice at any time. If you choose Essential only, the page will not request an ad slot. Your choice is remembered for 180 days.
You can also block or delete storage in your browser settings. Blocking all storage will stop the game from remembering your tree between visits. The privacy note explains your wider rights, including how to submit a request.
